SOME HISTORY ABOUT OUR AREA
The new mission will be the only Catholic Church in the area, besides San Antonio Chapel, an historic family-constructed chapel dating back to the 1930's located just south of Angel Fire in Black Lake. San Antonio is a very small chapel, and because it is on the historic churches of New Mexico list, should not be remodeled extensively, thus the need to construct a new church.
To read about two of the families, still living in this area, that built San Antonio Chapel and were then and still are instrumental in keeping the Catholic Faith alive in this area, click on the link "Santa Fe y Familia."
Tradition here holds that the Village of Angel Fire received its name from Franciscan friars after they viewed the beautiful angelic glow produced at sunset over the Moreno Valley mountains where the village is located. What is not legend is the devotion to angels and their roll in the development of faith life in New Mexico for hundreds of years.
The construction of this mission will involve a partnership of locals, part-time residents and well-wishers from outside the area. We truly need the prayers and financial support of well-wishers outside the valley who desire to help a mission church located right here in the United States, high in the mountains of Northern New Mexico, 8,500 feet above sea level! Many good Catholics donate to mission churches all over the globe. This mission project will be an opportunity for devoted Catholics, other Christians, Jews and all people of good will to help fund a mission in a remote part of the country located near towns like Santa Fe and Taos with a Catholic faith life stretching back to the early 1600's!
Your assistance in helping us will be greatly appreciated. May God bless you and your family for your prayers and financial help!
